SEPT 12 SOLACE
Recently, I lost someone very dear to me.
As a designer, my world is color, yet in the last few weeks color in my life seems to have faded.
I see forms and outlines yet have not focused on color to say.
In this grey…”monochromatic” period, I have found myself reflecting on how monochromatic color schemes can be not only calming but necessary. Really, void of color is never deliberate, in life, while at onset, it may seem black and white, it is in the shades of that the intricacies of design shine a light on an otherwise a flat landscape.
A simple river rock’s vein of unexpected gold set against gleaming white quartz, a new runway of fashion defined in silhouette. Certainly much easier on the buyer to nod to the line or not. Tunic? or not. Color can always be added. Classic photography often is honored in black and white where grey becomes the verb, the action taking place. Perhaps monochromic should simply be re-named “solace”, it gives one the opportunity to pause, reflect and then embrace what they see. Healing in a way perhaps but stunning all the same and not to be taken for granted.

“NEW YORK — For a world forever in turmoil, Maria Cornejo’s collection for Spring 2015 provides a welcome tonic. Even at its best this collection (or any for that matter) might not cure the world’s woes, but its gentle, monochromatic touches will soften the tumultuousness for those who listening (and cheering!).”
